Garage sale hording
Perhaps one of my favourite parts of living in London is never to cold weather. Even though I managed to cross paths with snow this winter already, the average temperature since I got back her was 10°C. Meaning you can walk around in small coat and without gloves. I haven't even took my furry hats out of the bag, and as much as I like them, I don't mind if I won't have to.
When I first came to London, I spent two months living in a hostel (which was completely amazing, even though very non productive). And beside fantastic atmosphere and all adorable people I met there, one of the best things was the day of cleaning out ''Lost and found'' boxes of items that were not claimed by their owners in weeks. Instead of just throwing them away (or whatever was supposed to happen with them), we made a ''garage (well, bar) sale'', where everybody was able to take anything they fancied. There was always enormous amounts of towels, left behind toiletries, pyjamas (or just parts of them), tops, trousers, jackets, robes, shoes, underwear (not the most popular pile), and different little accessories, from backpack to jewellery and headphones.
The first time I was putting it together, I was not very sure about the outcome, since there wasn't many people around. But us soon as our common space started filling up and people found out about the ''take whatever you fancy'' exchange, it turned to a great success. We were all browsing trough things, trying on the ones we liked and the ones we thought look funny. No matter how many people came and took what they liked, there was still so much left. And let me remind you, that this wasn't old, thrown away stuff, but still very nice, just forgotten items, so the whole thing was basically like second hand store, where you don't have to pay for anything.
Probably the most memorable catches were black Dr. Martin's boots that one girl picked up. Vintage styled backpack taken by another. And for me: shiny black winter coat, comfy white heels and perhaps these check chef pants - for which I had no clue they are chef's pants and I took them because one girl complimented me while I was trying them on for joke.
Despite maybe being meant for the kitchen (which is clearly indicated on the label, once you bother to give it a look), they turned out to have the ability of creating quite outstanding fashion look if styled the right way.
Our ''bar sales'' continued for few weeks before I left. As person, who was sorting the items, I definitely had a perk of taking exactly what I fancied, before others even knew it was there. But even at the end, while putting it away, I took hold of some more stuff, that nobody wanted and I felt it's shame to leave it behind. In this spirit, from the smallest possible luggage you can purchase, my belongings collection extended to the size of a big cardboard box, filled with newly acclaimed sweaters, t-shirts, towels, shoes and even a pair of iconic white All Stars (that at one point '''everybody'' had, but me). And one bracelet with little umbrellas (typical London weather), that I'm mostly wearing ever since as a memory of those incredible times.

What a great idea to share your lost and found finds at a bar sale, and I love that you were able to find pieces to complete a very cute outfit - it looks great on you! I do like to go to the thrift store every once in a while. I live in a small town and am surprised that I don't ever see people wearing some of the pieces I've donated. LOL! I can imagine that the undergarments aren't the most coveted left-behind goods :P I live in an area where the average Winter temperature is around 10C too (north Texas), but it's still too cold to me.

Yes, this is really an advantage! In my home area in Bavaria we have often very hard and cold winters - and at the moment a lot of snow. But as I'm currently in Croatia I don't care :) I like what you show here!

Love your styling! The jacket is so elegant, especially styled with pants. I don't think of London as being a warm city, but whenever I check the weather forecast there I see that it is not as cold as I thought it to be. I don't know why I always thought London was cold. You always hear people talking about terrible British weather, the rains and the fog, but in reality England has more sunny days than many other European countries. BTW This hostel garage sale sounds amazing, such a great idea to make the most out of lost and find things that weren't claimed.
