My life as an ENTP

I haven't even heard of this before, and now I'm really obsessed with it. Not even sure how we got to the topic, but while at my friends birthday party, I was encouraged to take a personality test.  There's a concept of 16 personalities in which we all fit, based on weather we're introverts or extroverts, intuitive or sensing,  thinker or feeler, and judgmental or perceiving.

It basically started with figuring out weather I'm an introverted or extroverted person. My friends, and probably a lot of people would perceive me as introvert on many occasions, as I can easily hang around without saying much or spend many hours on my own without getting bored. But I insisted that I see myself as much more of an extrovert, as main reason for me to not always being active in conversations is my terrible sense of humor or simply sarcasm that gets so many people insulted rather than entertained, and because I start feeling really down and low key depressed if I'm isolated for to long, even though I might not be always actively looking for some company.

Well, the test showed I was right, which encouraged me even more to discover what else lies behind the personality type of ENTP that I'm supposed to fit.

ENTP basically stands for Extroverted, iNtuitive, Thinking and Perceiving. But my favourite simple explanation came as ENTP has potential to do just about anything they set their mind on, but is to lazy to do anything about it. Basically something I've been hearing my whole life, how I could achieve absolutely anything if only I'd try, but till now never attained anything so far. The other day I was even feeling out an application form for something very exciting and it was going really well and easy, until I crossed the question of what's your greatest achievement. I somehow never completed that form to the end. And also, I never had problem admitting I'm lazy. It might have been something seen as negative in years back for me, but lately, more and more, it's one of my first traits I'll present when meeting new people. After all, laziness is engine of progress. And I have to admit, it also happened that I got praised for that. So why not stay true to yourself, especially if it's just part of your personality.

What I can also totally relate to is preferring spontaneousness and flexibility to scheduled lifestyle. I remember seeing so many of ''My whatever routine'' examples online and thinking how I could never do such presentation, as firstly I don't have any routine and even more totally don't want it. Repeating things over and over might seems easy on the brains but is totally exhausting to my creative side. And while routine might feel comfy for some, it almost seems like a prison for me, following the same patterns over and over again. With no expectations like this and flexibility you also become much more adaptable, and I don't mean in terms of being fine with everything but simply struggling way less when things aren't perfect or going according to the plan. You can see unpredictable moments as a challenge and take them with much more excitement then somebody used to a laid out routine.

Why extroverted is a bit questionable at this type, is because small talk might not be our strongest value and neither our deepest pleasure. I agree I really enjoy discussing all sorts of topics, sometimes in unnecessary depths and details, but was always slightly annoyed with all the basics of small talks, such as ''Hi, how are you?'', ''Good and how are you'' or ''Oh, I like your skirt'' ''Oh thanks, I like your shoes'' sort of type. I can absolutely agree that if I don't really have something smart or valuable to say, I'd more likely sit there in (uncomfortable) silence rather than gibberish about this or that. Maybe that's why ENTPs are rather referred to as Devi'ls advocates than popular personality type.

Another thing that totally fits me is how easily I get bored, or rather said, loose interest in pretty much whatever it is and am ready to try and do something new that gives me initial excitement. This of course leads to enormous amount of unfinished projects, in my case from art bits to writing. Something that was initially totally grabbing my attention for hours and hours, until I thought of something else and couldn't wait to try it out. This probably also proves the point of having potential to do anything with no real achievements point, even though the lack of results is not caused by actual laziness.

The parts of personality I couldn't really identify with was living in the future. Yes I can exaggeratedly think of various ideas, things I want to do, etc. etc., but in general I feel like I'm more clinging to the past and on many occasions over analyzing past events, overthinking on how things should have been done and coming up with scenarios of how I'd do it if I had a chance to relive them again.

I also don't see myself as someone who'd enjoy arguing even though I can be good at arguments; or someone looking for disagreements just for the fun.

I'm also not so sure about my general efficiency. I might be looking for innovative solutions, yet again to avoid routine and get things done faster and easier, but generally  the career paths of economists, analysts, traders  and lawyers that were listed as perfect for my type won't really be for me, as I don't find them enough creative. On the other hand, there were some more interesting options listed as well, such as engineer, producer, photographer, journalist or advertisement. Oh, and we make for a great entrepreneurs.

I browsed trough key characteristics and expressed my agreement and disagreement in the video below.

If you would like to find out about your personality type, you can take a test at; and hopefully you'll have as much fun with results and discovering yourself as I did.

  12. I think I am similar, I think I am ENFP. Although sometimes it changes to ENFJ. Like you, I can identify with certain aspects and others I just think "I'm not like that at all".

  16. I took one personality test, nit sure is the same one but it showed I was a rare type of personality a fake extrovert. I appear as an an extrovert because of my developed communication skills, but I'm actually an introvert. I think the personality was called an the advocate.
